Unconventional Venetian sunsets

“Venetian sunsets. One of the most special moments to observe Lady Laguna changing her dress when she is preparing to meet Sole. But also one of the most mistreated moments and trivialized by postcard images.” I was thinking this last Thursday while I was crossing Ponte della Libertà at Venetian sunsets. One of the most special moments to observe the Lady Laguna’s dress changing when she is preparing to meet Sole at about 6.00 pm and as soon as we left the darkness of the train station, I was struck by the light of the sun that was about to fall. I jumped up and started taking pictures in a frantic way because I really wanted to show you such a marvel.

Who has the “luck” of having me as a travel companion in trains to and from Venice recognizes me because (I have to say rather strangely) I am usually the only person in the wagon that observes this natural spectacle carefully and decides to portray it despite the difficulties due to the passage of other trains, buses or even other passengers, who tend to stand in front of the camera in the moments less indicated … However, in years of training I acquired a certain skill in dodging these obstacles and at the same time do not lose my balance nor my luggage!

As I sat quiet again in my place, among the sighs of relief of the other passengers. I said to myself: “This is not the most appropriate way of photographing this show …” And I spent the rest of the trip thinking about this topic between myself and me.

“The sunset is a romantic setting, which requires calm, meditation, relaxation … maybe even someone to share it with … no! This is just one of the ways to consider the sunset, due precisely to the visual culture infesting the postcards of Venice! In my mission to present an unconventional storytelling I can and must grant myself poetic (and visual) licenses and push to observe the phenomenon from multiple perspectives. Even that of a frenetic designer and blogger who, in her race between one commitment and another, does not give up observing the beauty that surrounds her in the most unexpected moments!”

Which is your special,
unconventional moment dedicated to Venetian sunsets?
